The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) promotes cooperation, dialogue and understanding of manufacturers with the government by representing the views and concerns of its members to the relevant authorities. Of KAM’s total 1300 members, 153 are women-led. In 2017, KAM launched the Women In Manufacturing (WIM) Programme and the objective of the ICR Facility’s support is to strengthen KAM’s capacity to advance women in manufacturing in Kenya.
The intervention was concluded in October 2022 with the following outputs being developed, which can now be taken forward by KAM to improve the economic framework conditions for women:
In a post-implementation review in March 2023, KAM confirmed that they are using the knowledge gained through the intervention to offer information and advice to women entrepreneurs on how to make best use of AfCFTA trading opportunities, e.g. education on rules of origins. This is taking place through webinars and KAM’s trade desk. Providing information targeted at women in manufacturing was one of the recommendations that came out of the intervention.
