Context

AFAB has been promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Burundi since 2003. Its aim is to promote women’s economic empowerment, provide resources and training for business development and promote networking opportunities between women entrepreneurs. AFAB has around 2,000 members across the country (members pay a membership fee), who operate in 11 sectors of activity, including trade, mining, industry, crafts, transport, construction and public works, banking and insurance, new information and communication technologies, agri-business, tourism and hotels, services and the professions.

Objective

The aim of the request is to draw up a PEAHS (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment in the Workplace) ‘Ecosystem Protocol’ for AFAB members, as well as other organisations linked to AFAB, offering a guide for their own victims, as well as other companies and organisations linked to women entrepreneurs, on how to proceed in these situations.

Results

AFAB plans to use the communication material produced to share it among stakeholders and through social media, to raise awareness among women entrepreneurs in Bujumbura and prevent sexual harassment.

AFAB will initiate the process of signing the Code of Conduct developed with the ICR Facility for the entrepreneurs who have been sensitized and their employees.
