Context

The ICR Facility supported the private sector section of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) to develop a win-win partnership between the public and the private sector in the Sahel region  and to thus improve the business and investment climate.

Objective

The technical assistance aimed at the establishment of a sub-regional public-private dialogue (PPD) platform for the member states of UEMOA. The platform involved eight countries in the Sahel region. It provided tailored support to identify and propose solutions to regulatory, administrative and institutional bottlenecks of business environments through conducting PPDs at the regional and national levels. The ICR Facility’s support delivered an assessment report of the state of play of existing PPDs in UEMOA member states. In coordination with UEMOA, a virtual session with PPD actors in the region was organised to present the main results of the assessment and deliberate on the potential axes of a regional PPD strategy.

Result

A framework document containing a regional strategy on public-private dialogue was delivered to the UEMOA Commission for implementation.
