Context

The technical assistance produced a study assessing the situation of women in the maritime logistics sector and the obstacles they face in four Indian Ocean countries (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles). A public-private working group on maritime connectivity will be set up, based in part on this study, to discuss its recommendations and define concrete measures that could be implemented.

Objectives

This intervention aimed to contribute to the economic empowerment of women in the maritime logistics sector in the Indian Ocean region by identifying the specific obstacles they face, formulating strategic recommendations to promote their inclusion, and strengthening public-private dialogue around these issues.

Results

The study gives a state of play of the role of women in the port and maritime logistics sector in four countries of the Indian Ocean (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles) and the obstacles they are facing, highlighting recommendations at local and regional levels. CBOI will be able to use these elements as part of its regional public-private working group on maritime connectivity, whose work will be based in part on this study, and which will be in charge of discussing its recommendations and defining concrete actions to be implemented.
