Business Environment Reforms through Public- Private Dialogue – Lessons learnt from the ICR Facility’s Interventions

The ICR Facility supports governments, public agencies and private sector representative bodies in African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries to improve their business environment on the basis of Public-Private Dialogue (PPD).

PPD is an effective tool to enhance collaboration between public and private actors. It is a continuous and semi-structured process that brings together various stakeholders to tackle a common issue over a period of time until a specific result is attained. Business representative organisations can establish and maintain regular communication with key public sector actors based on an agreed format to advocate for change as needed. This will allow the public sector to make informed decisions about policy and regulatory reforms.

About

The ICR Facility has implemented interventions with a focus on promoting well-functioning PPD processes and strengthening key stakeholders involved in the processes. Some of these past interventions have focused on, for instance:

  • Providing support to develop diagnostics on investment climate constraints in Botswana
  • Providing support to further develop existing PPD practices in Cape Verde
  • The design and implementation of PPD structures in Nigeria
  • Exploring the legal status and set up of dialogue tools and mechanisms in West Africa
  • Building and strengthening PPD champions to improve the ownership and sustainability of a dialogue process in Tanzania.

Objective

The objective of this webinar is to present the key findings of the Public-Private Dialogue for Results (PPD4R) publication, a toolkit that provides a holistic view of PPD.  It further aims to provide participants with insights on some of the ICR Facility’s lessons learnt and recommendations from implementing PPD interventions over the past five years. Success factors and stories, in particular from UEMOA, are shared in a way that is helpful for ACP stakeholders who are interested in promoting PPD processes in their countries or implementing similar interventions and projects. In allocated moments during the webinar, the audience is given the possibility to ask the speakers questions and share their experiences.

Upcoming events

By supporting business climate and investment environment reforms, the ICR Facility aims to help generate more decent jobs and contribute to improving livelihoods in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
